§ 61. Mr. Gammansasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is prepared to abolish the Purchase Tax on wireless for bed-ridden invalids in the same way as concessions are given for wireless for the blind.
§ Sir S. CrippsNo. The concession for the blind was accepted by the House as an exceptional departure from the principles which govern this tax.
§ 69. Mr. Digbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals have been made to him for an alteration in the administration of Purchase Tax so as to enable the retail distributive trade to obtain a rebate in cases where Purchase Tax paid by them cannot be recovered from the customer; and what decision he has reached regarding such proposals.
§ Sir S. CrippsNumerous requests for such a rebate have been made, but it has been found impossible to devise a fair and workable scheme; and I doubt if one could ever be found.
