§ Mr. TomlinsonMy Department does not collect separate statistics about children entering school. It is, however, estimated that the numbers of children under eight years of age entering maintained and assisted schools in 1946 and 1947 were 535,000 and 565,000 repectively, and that the number in 1948 will be 585,000. No estimate can be made of the number in 1945.
