The subsidy on utility cotton cloth cost just under £8 million during the financial year 1947–48 and is estimated to cost £250,000 during the current financial year. 1 he subsidy on household textiles, which was removed last June, varied from 20 per cent, to 6o per cent. of the manufacturers' ceiling prices.
