HC Deb 04 May 1948 vol 450 c124W
Mr. Sharp

asked the Secretary of State for Air what classes of tradesmen and other personnel, in addition to aircrew personnel, have withheld from them at the present time the right to purchase their discharge from the R.A.F.

Mr. A. Henderson

Except for airmen with less than three months' service, discharge by purchase is a privilege and not a right. Any airman serving on a regular engagement, other than a member of aircrew, may apply for discharge by purchase, but approval may be withheld unless discharge can be granted without detriment to the Service.
