§ Mr. ShinwellThe answer to the first part of the Question is 152, including 63 Ministry of Labour and National Service medical board centres at which Army recruiting staff work. The total staff employed at these offices on 1st December was 479, of whom 424 were civilians, including retired military personnel, and 55 serving A.T.S. Twelve thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight voluntary recruits were enlisted between 28th September, 1947, and 28th February, 1948.
