HC Deb 04 March 1948 vol 448 cc78-9W
8. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the working of the various Maximum Charges Orders in force in Scotland, showing the number of successful prosecutions by his Department for breaches of these order; is he satisfied that the penalties provided by the law for such breaches are sufficiently great; or will he consider increasing them so as to stop profiteering of this kind in Scotland.

Mr. H. Wilson

There were 107 convictions out of 111 prosecutions for price offences in Scotland during 1947; the answer to the second part of the Question is in the affirmative and the third accordingly does not arise.
