HC Deb 04 March 1948 vol 448 c83W
Mr. T. Reid

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many tons of oil were shipped from Brunei in 1947 and 1938, respectively; and what approximately was the amount of dollar exchange gained or saved by the sale of this oil in 1947.

Mr. Gaitskell

Approximately 700,000 tons of crude oil in 1938 and 1,700,000 tons in 1947. The approximate f.o.b. value of the products obtained from this crude oil in 1947 was £6,250,000. Had the oil not been available a corresponding dollar expenditure would have been incurred.
