§ 68. Mr. Errollasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what inquiry he has made into the problem of noise in coal mines and coal-washing plants; what recommendations have been made; and to what extent they have been acted upon.
§ Mr. RobensInvestigation made before the war on behalf of the Medical Research Council, by the Safety in Mines Research Board and by the Inspectors of Mines, indicated that a considerable reduction of noise was likely to result as improvements are made in the design, construction and maintenance of mining machinery. It may be that the reduction of noise, which I am advised is now noticeable in certain instances, could be aided by further investigation and my right hon. Friend is therefore asking the National Coal Board to give attention to the question.
