HL Deb 27 July 1948 vol 157 cc1275-6WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked His Majesty's Government: Whether they will state how many of the workers not recruited locally at the Admiralty storehouses at Almondbank, Perthshire, are accommodated in a hostel, and how many in lodgings respectively; also how many in both these categories are separated from their wives and families, owing to the acute lack of local accommodation?

VISCOUNT HALL

Of the staff in question, 24 live in the hostel and 36 in lodgings locally; 5 in each of these categories are separated from their families. The remainder of the staff recruited outside Perthshire live within daily travelling distance—in, for example, Dundee.

THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked His Majesty's Government: Whether they will state when the fifty houses promised by Perth Town Council to accommodate a portion of the homeless Admiralty workers at Almondbank will be ready for occupation by these workers?

LORD MORRISON

The first four of these houses are expected to be ready this month, and it is hoped that all of them will be available by the end of the year.

House adjourned at half past six o'clock.
