HC Deb 08 July 1948 vol 453 cc49-50W
Mr. Dumpleton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the need for recruiting experienced people as probation officers, consideration has been given to the possibility of raising the age of entry for the probation training course; and with what result.

Mr. Ede

Yes. The Probation Training Board is now able to consider applications from persons over the age of 40, and to offer training to those applicants whom they regard as suitable. Candidates who satisfactorily complete the course of training arranged by the Board will be eligible for appointment as full-time probation officers, even though they are over 40.
