Mr. Charles Smithasked the Postmaster-General in which departments and regions of the Post Office it is the practice occasionally, and in which regularly, to send typing work out to agencies; at what rate is payment made; and how much has been spent in this way during the last 12 months or similar convenient period.
§ Mr. Wilfred PalingThe only department of the Post Office which regularly sends typing work to agencies is the Solicitor's Department. The rates vary according to the length and kind of work and the number of copies. The payment to agencies during the year 1947 was £845 16s. 11d. Occasional use is made of 153W typing agencies by other departments and regions. During 1947, the amount spent was £108 10s. 9d.
