§ 75 and 76. Mr. Haydn Daviesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1) whether he has yet replied to the representations made by a number of members of the Cyprus Consultative Assembly concerning the granting of self-government to the island; and what were the terms of the reply;
(2) whether His Majesty's Government is prepared to grant to Cyprus the same measure of self-government in internal affairs as has been granted to Malta.
Mr. Creech JonesI have not yet been able to reply to the memorial addressed to me through the Chairman of the Consultative Assembly by certain of the Greek Cypriot members, although I am anxious not to delay the progress of the Assembly. I should make it clear, however, that His Majesty's Government see considerable difficulties in the way of accepting the full request of the148W memorialists and are themselves considering putting forward, through the chairman, constitutional proposals for the consideration of the Assembly.
