§ 5. Mr. M. Lindsayasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress is being made in the recovery of German assets in neutral countries.
Mr. McNeilImplementation of the Agreement on German assets of 18th July, 1946, is proceeding satisfactorily in Sweden, and we have received the 63 million kronor due to the United Kingdom there. The liquidation of German assets in Switzerland under the Agreement of 25th May, 1946, is still held up by difficulties which have arisen in connexion with paragraph 1 (2) of the Agreement. In conjunction with the French and United States Governments, we have been pressing the Swiss Government to proceed with liquidation. Agreements with the Spanish and Portuguese Governments are under active negotiation.
