§ Mr. Piratinasked the Minister of Health what will be the increased rent to be charged for an average three-bedroomed house as a result of the increased rate of interest to be paid by local authorities from 2½ per cent. to 3 per cent.
§ Mr. BevanLocal authorities are not required to increase the rents of their houses in consequence of the increase of the rate of interest on loans from 2½ to 3 per cent., which represents an increase of 7s. 6d. in the annual loan charges on £100 on a 60 year basis. I would refer the hon. Member to Section 85 (5) of the Housing Act, 1936.
