§ Mr. Rees-WilliamsThe total ordinary revenue of the Native Administrations of Nigeria for 1945–46 was £2,430,168 and their surplus balances on 1st March, 1946, amounted to £3,100,026. No more recent figures are available here. About half of the total recurrent expenditure is devoted to general administrative purposes such as district and village administration, judicial, treasury, police and prisons, and with the remainder provision is made for agriculture, education, forestry, health, public works and other services of a local character. £1,580,400 of the surplus balance is invested outside Nigeria.
