9. Mr. E. P. Smithasked the Secretary of State for War when he expects to remove the sea defences still remaining on the shore at Dungeness and Littlestone, since the iron is now distintegrating and constitutes a danger to the public using the beaches.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe clearance of military works on beaches and foreshores cannot be undertaken by the War Department; it is normally carried out by the local authority, the cost being met by my Department. Proposals for removal were submitted by the Borough of Lydd on 20th January, 1948, and they are now being examined.
