§ 51. Mr. W. Fletcherasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of commodities from Colonies in the sterling area are being sold to other countries outside the sterling area for resale by them in dollars, with consequent loss of dollars to His Majesty's Government.
§ Sir S. CrippsI regret that no statistics are available to show what percentage of commodities from Colonies in the sterling area are being sold in this way but I believe the figure to be very small. The Government are fully alive to the possible loss of dollars and are considering as a matter of urgency what protective measures can be taken. I am grateful to the hon. Member for the assistance he has given in this connection.
