HC Deb 10 February 1948 vol 447 cc31-2W
63. Mr. H. Fraser

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the Government's general policy regarding American offers of private industrial investment in this country.

Sir S. Cripps

In reply to the first part of the Question, I regret that the information is not available. In reply to the second part I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade on 3rd February to the hon. and gallant Member for East Renfrew (Major Lloyd). I would add, that we are concerned to ensure that, in cases where a substantial proportion of the control and the equity interest remains in non-resident hands, a comparable proportion of the total capital should be put up in appropriate foreign currency, from non-resident sources.
