HC Deb 04 February 1948 vol 446 c276W
68. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what basis the chairman of the Uganda Electricity Board was selected.

Mr. Creech Jones

The chairman was considered particularly suitable in view of his technical qualifications, his experience in managing large electricity public undertakings in the United Kingdom and the knowledge he has obtained of hydroelectric supply problems in East Africa.

69. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why extensive monopoly powers have been granted to the Uganda Electricity Board.

Mr. Creech Jones

The powers conferred on the Board are a natural corollary of the resolution of the Uganda Legislative Council to set up a public corporation to control the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity supplies in the Protectorate.
