HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 c213W
43. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware of the general shortage of steel for tingles, particularly in Newport, and that the new quota is only 10 per cent. of the prewar allocation, which is causing serious hardships and difficulties to the boot and shoe repairing industry; and whether he will make a substantial increase in the coming quarter.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

There is still a shortage of certain types of wire, including wire for boot and shoe grindery, and I fear that the general situation is likely to remain difficult. I am having inquiries made into the present position at Newport and will write to my hon. Friend later.
