HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 cc242-3W
118. Mr. Hardy

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the discontent existing amongst the staff employed at Vickers Armstrongs factory at Squires Gate, Blackpool, at the failure of the Government to announce the future use of the factory; that 3,800 persons are employed manufacturing prefabricated houses; that there are 1,500 persons unemployed already at Blackpool; and whether he will agree to meet a deputation from the joint shop stewards employed at this factory to consider its future use.

Mr. Belcher

Every effort is being made to find some further suitable productive use for this factory and I am fully informed about the labour position in the area. As regards the last part of the Question, I would inform my hon. Friend that discussions are taking place with the trade union representatives concerned.
