HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 cc228-9W
Mr. Vane

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why he is providing military government staffs for D.P. camps in Austria when His Majesty's Government has already made substantial contributions to I.R.O. to provide this same service.

Mr. McNeil

Theper capita charge levied against I.R.O. covers the cost of the Military Government staffs engaged in the displaced persons camps in Austria, and such cost is part of the item shown under "Appropriations and Aid" in the Estimates.

Mr. Vane

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on what grounds I.R.O. propose to discriminate in its administration between D.P. camps formerly run by U.N.R.R.A. and other camps, and to provide the former with a higher scale of medical equipment and amenities.

Mr. McNeil

I am not aware of any such discrimination. The policy of I.R.O. is to arrange administration on an equal basis for all eligible displaced persons, whether from ex-U.N.R.R.A. or other camps. I shall, however, be glad to investigate any specific point which the hon. Member has in mind.
