HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 c231W
86. Mr. Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, what is the reason for the delay in coming to an agreement with the Government of China regarding the liabilities of the Shanghai Municipal Council in so far as they concern British subjects, in view of the undertakings given by the Chinese Government under the Treaty of 1943.

Mr. McNeil

The matter is still under negotiation, and I regret, therefore, that I am unable to give any details at present. I can, however, assure the hon. Member that the British Adviser to the Liquidation Commission and the British Authorities in China have pressed, and will continue to press, the case as strongly as possible.
