HC Deb 02 December 1948 vol 458 cc203-4W
Mr. Sharp

asked the Minister of Labour how many Government training centres are now operated by his Department; how many of these are emergency training centres; what is the total number of staff, showing separately those engaged on instructional work; how many trainees are receiving instruction; and whether any substantial changes are proposed.

Mr. Isaacs

Thirty-one Government training centres, including the Oldham Cotton Centre, are now in operation; none of these is an emergency training centre. The total number of staff in post on the 1st November, 1948, was 1,772 of whom 572 were instructors. The number of trainees receiving instruction was 4,304. No substantial changes are proposed but there is and will be continual adjustment of the numbers of staff to meet changing circumstances.
