HL Deb 02 December 1948 vol 159 cc775-6WA
THE EARL OF AIRLIE

asked His Majesty's Government whether it is true that Great Britain is exporting sugar from this country to the West Indies; and, if so, how much has been exported this year up to date.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES (THE EARL OF HUNTINGDON)

From the Official Trade Statistics it has been calculated that 41 tons 10 cwt. of refined sugar went to the West Indies in the period January to October, 1948. This was for Grenada. A further 562 tons went to Bermuda. Neither is a sugar-producing Colony. The Ministry of Food undertakes the procurement of sugar for a number of importing Colonies.

House adjourned at ten minutes past six o'clock.
