§ 2. Mr. W. Shepherdasked the President of the Board of Trade the total cost of factory buildings, with services, which have been built by the Government finance in the Development Areas; and the number of people at present employed in these factories.
§ Mr. H. WilsonSince the passing of the Distribution of Industry Act, total expenditure to 30th September, 1948, on new buildings ready for production at that date was about £12½ million and an additional £2½ million had been spent on conversion of surplus Government factories to industrial use. Total employment at the same date was 22,300 in the new factories and 33,900 in the converted surplus factories.
