HC Deb 26 April 1948 vol 450 cc8-9W
47. Mr. Murray

asked the Attorney-General when he expects to receive the Committee's Report on Leasehold Reform; whether he is aware of the anxiety caused to present tenants by unreasonable landlords; and if he will expedite this matter.

The Solicitor-General

The Leasehold Committee have not yet been able to indicate when they will be ready to submit a Report to my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor, but the Committee, as well as my noble Friend and myself, are aware of the public interest in the questions which have been referred to them and the necessity of dealing with them urgently. There is, however, a considerable amount of evidence which the Committee must consider before they can submit a Report of any value, and I understand that they are in the process of collecting that evidence. I do not think, therefore, that a useful purpose would be served by asking the Committee to expedite their Report.
