HC Deb 26 April 1948 vol 450 cc9-10W
74. Mr. Boardman

asked the Minister of Food what representations he has received from the grocery trade respecting the accumulation of heavy stocks of jam as a consequence of many customers taking sugar in lieu of their preserves ration; and if he will consider the reduction of these stocks by authorising an off-the-ration allocation at an early date.

Dr. Summerskill

In consequence of the present stock position my right hon. Friend has decided that during the four weeks beginning 23rd May, the preserves ration, when taken as jam, shall be increased from 1 lb. to 2 lb.
