§ Major Bruceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an estimate for the fiscal year 1947–48 of the total tax relief which has so far accrued to the cotton spinning industry in respect of the sale of machinery and plant for more than its written down value, and whether he still estimates £2,500,000 to be the cost of this concession over the three year period contemplated for the completion of the re-organisation of the industry.
§ Sir S. CrippsNo claims for this relief have yet been lodged and, while I have no reason to question the estimate of £2,500,000, I cannot give any estimate of the relief for any particular year.
