HC Deb 13 April 1948 vol 449 c63W
67. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation how many helicopters are in operation in this country; how many are being produced; and what is the average cost.

Mr. Lindgren

There are eight helicopters on the Register of Civil Aircraft which have valid Certificates of Airworthiness. Five firms are engaged in the development of eight different types of helicopter, and one of these firms hopes to commence production this October. It is impossible at this stage to give an accurate estimate of the cost of production as it is likely to vary between wide limits, according to the size of helicopter and the number ordered.
