HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 cc55-6W
99. Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that mantles and vapourisers for Tilley lamps are still practically unobtainable in the North East of Scotland; and if he will take immediate steps to ensure that increased supplies are available before the winter in this part of the United Kingdom where many farms and private houses are entirely dependent on lamps for their lighting.

Mr. Belcher

I am aware that soft mantles for Tilley lamps are scarce but they are being distributed mainly to regions like North-East Scotland which are particularly dependent upon this form of lighting. Output of vapourisers continues to improve and increased supplies which are now regularly reaching the wholesalers should shortly be in the hands of retailers.
