§ 118. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what space will be allowed for the premises of primary and secondary schools in the new Planning Areas.
§ Mr. WoodburnI am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a statement on the scales which are recommended to Education Authorities for use in reserving sites for different types of schools. The figures for secondary schools may have to be reconsidered if further advice is received from the Committee on School Buildings for Scotland.
Following is the statement
Nursery School for 40–50 pupils—1 acre;
Nursery School for 80–100 pupils— 1½ acres;
Primary School (for 14 classes)— 4½ acres;
Secondary School—9 acres.
In addition to playgrounds on the site, each primary school should have playing facilities comprising two pitches adjacent to or near the school, and each secondary school should have a playing field extending to at least 10 acres. The number of sites required in any area depends upon the number of houses to be served and the estimated school population.
