HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 cc61-2W
117. Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Labour why a letter sent to him by the honourable Member for West Willesden on 14th July, with correspondence from Mr. A. L. Hands, who was seeking deferment of service on educational grounds, was not answered until 4th September despite a reminder having been sent on 22nd August.

Mr. Isaacs

An interim reply was sent to my hon. Friend on 30th July saying that I would write to him as soon as inquiries were completed. These inquiries, which involved consultation with another Government Department, were necessary because a decision as to Mr. Hands' deferment could not be given on the information supplied by him. I regret that they took so long.
