HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 c44W
57. Mr. Keeling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an assurance that he will not use national funds to raise the market value of Government securities in order to reduce the interest to be paid to the recipients on 1st January, 1948, of the new transport stock.

Mr. Dalton

As I have previously stated in reply to similar Questions, it would be contrary both to long established practice and to the national interest that I should make public statements on these market operations.
