HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 cc42-3W
53. Mr. Hollis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that a prize of £500 has been awarded to Miss A. L. Barker by the Incorporated Society of Authors, Playwrights and Composers to be spent upon foreign travel; and whether facilities will be given to Miss Barker to take advantage of this prize.

Mr. Dalton

Yes.

56. Mr. Keeling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer for what reason the ban on the use of foreign ships, aircraft and railways by British passengers which was to have come into force on 1st October was cancelled.

Mr. Dalton

Because I was satisfied that the original order would be difficult to administer, would save very little foreign exchange, and might involve a breach of certain treaty obligations.
