Mr. Shephard

asked the Minister of Labour how many European volunteer workers have been brought to this country up to the most recent date; how many are males and females, respectively; and what number have been placed in employment.

On 20th October, 28,264 European volunteer workers had been brought to this country. These comprised 19,446 men and 8,818 women, of whom 17,186 men and 7,957 women had been placed in employment. A further 1,286 men and 432 women were under submission to vacancies.
