§ THE EARL OF DUDLEY> asked his Majesty's Government, whether any efforts have been made in conjunction with the appropriate French authorities to locate the statue of the late Field-Marshal Earl Haig which was removed from its plinth in the Square of Montreuil-sur-Mer by the German occupying Forces; if so, 1485WA with what result; and whether arrangements are being made to replace this monument.
LORD PAKENHAMI regret that the monument has not been traced. I understand that the Municipal Council at Montreuil has expressed the wish that it shall be replaced, and the matter is under consideration. I therefore feel that the question is one which can safely be left to our French friends.
House resumed.
