Mr. Baker Whiteasked the Minister of Food what steps he is taking to ensure an adequate supply of chip baskets for the 1948 fruit season; and what priority 316W is to be granted for their manufacture and that of 12 lb. chips for tomatoes.
§ Mr. StracheyEvery effort is being made to obtain adequate supplies of timber for next season. Unfortunately supplies of home-grown timber have been severely reduced and those from Europe would not be sufficient to make up the loss. The purchase of timber from other countries, which involves dollar expenditure, is at present under consideration. Every assistance will be given to overcome difficulties if and when they arise.
