§ 47. Mr. Hollisasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that on 20th October, Mr. John A. Hannington, of Caroline Buildings, Bath, was directed to work as a carpenter at Messrs. Wilson Lovatt and Sons, of Tiverton, without being offered any alternative employment; and whether he will see to it that such offer of alternative employment is made to him.
§ Mr. IsaacsI very much regret that a direction to employment—at Twerton, near Bath and not to Tiverton as stated—should have been issued to Mr. Harrington. While the action taken prevented a serious delay on the work of an important housing contract the issue of the direction was not justified under my policy and I am arranging for it to be withdrawn and for Mr. Harrington to be given a reasonable choice of jobs on essential work.
