HC Deb 27 November 1947 vol 444 cc302-3W
7. Mr. Astor

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how soon the stocks of coke allocated to distributors will be sufficient for them to meet the allowances to householders under current regulations he has laid down; and what percentage of allocations in the country are being honoured.

Mr. Gaitskell

There is, as I have already stated publicly a severe shortage of coke because of the increased needs of industry, and I can give no assurance as to how soon and to what extent it will be possible to meet all demands for coke within the permitted quantities. Those quantities relate, of course, to group 2 fuels as a whole, which include anthracite, dry steam and manufactured fuel as well as coke. I regret that information regarding the percentage of allocations delivered to merchants is not available.
