§ 80. Mrs. Ayrton Gouldasked the Minister of Food if he is aware that there are large stocks of sugar in the country and, since the imports of sugar are bound to continue whether he will increase the sugar ration to housewives and confectioners so that the shortage of energy and heat producing foods, emphasised by the essential cut in potatoes, may, as far as possible, be compensated during the winter.
§ Mr. StracheyOur stocks of sugar are good and imports will continue, but as my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer informed the House on 23rd October, the cut in the sugar ration and in supplies to manufacturers was made with the object of saving dollars.
