Notes:
(a) The rates given are the maxima for the various ranks, attainable normally by officers completing a full career. For others, the award depends on their actual length of service and other factors.
(b) Awards under the 1919 provisions were periodically adjusted in conformity with changes in the cost of living, and were in 1935 stabilised at the rates shown in column 3. The effect of the Pensions Increase Warrants has been to increase these rates to those shown in column 4. The rate of £950 a year for a Major-General was, however, introduced in 1938 and has not been varied.
(c) For certain Majors of long service there was a special maximum of £475 2s. 6d.
