HC Deb 20 November 1947 vol 444 cc220-1W
121. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in order to save fuel, he will have inquiries made over the whole country as to the possibilities of reducing street lighting, the automatic flushing of lavatories and other factors in the consumption of fuel.

Mr. Callaghan

Street lighting has been cut to 50 per cent. of pre-war standards. It is not practicable to deal in detail with the many minor ways in which fuel can be wasted, but the need for economy is well understood.
