asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will consider issuing to the secretaries of recognised motor cycle clubs affiliated to the A.C.U. supplementary petrol coupons equivalent in quantity to the basic petrol ration formerly enjoyed by their members, in order that motor cyclists shall not be de barred from what was frequently their only form of sport and recreation.

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what proportion out of the total petrol allocated to all road users in the form of basic petrol ration was allocated to motor cycles; what was the quantity so involved in the last six months' period of the basic petrol rationing scheme; and what would be its approximate value in U.S. dollars or other hard currency.

Mr. Gaitskell

In the last six months approximately 60,000 tons, which was one-eighth of the total petrol issued as basic rations, was allocated to motor cycles. The approximate cost of this petrol including freight, at present prices would be 2,700,000 U.S. dollars.
