Commander Galbraith

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will state the amounts and cost of oil fuel and petrol consumed by the Royal Navy in the year ended 30th June, 1947, and give an estimate of the amounts to be consumed in the year to 30th June, 1948.

During the year ended 30th June, 1947, the Royal Navy's consumption of oil fuel and petrol was:

Motor spirit 44,100
Aviation spirit 34,700
Oil fuel of all kinds 2,202,000

The estimated consumption during the year ending 30th June, 1948, is:

Tons.
Motor spirit 27,000
Aviation spirit 25,000
Oil fuel of all kinds 1,662,000

I regret it is not possible to give the value of these quantities as it is not in accordance with usual Government procedure to disclose information which might lead to the revelation of prices tendered by contractors.
