HC Deb 19 November 1947 vol 444 cc186-7W
79. Commander Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Air why only about three weeks warning was given to families recently informed that they would not now be able to join their husbands serving in Japan.

Mr. A. Henderson

I very much regret that these families were given dates of sailing which had to be cancelled within three weeks. This was due to a failure in my Department to inform those responsible for arranging sailings that the R.A.F. in Japan may be withdrawn earlier than had been expected. I will certainly examine very sympathetically any case which hon. Members may bring to my notice in which hardship may have been caused.
