97. Mr. Wilkes

asked the Minister of Food whether he will institute immediate price control of turnips, carrots and parsnips at the price level obtaining on 8th November, 1947.

107. Mr. Platts-Mills

asked the Minister of Food in view of the decision to ration potatoes. whether he will at once impose a strict price control on swedes and all other root vegetables.

117. Miss Colman

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the rationing of potatoes, and the consequent increased demand for other vegetables, he will immediately introduce price control of vegetables.

Dr. Summerskill

Prices of carrots, onions and cooked beetroots are already controlled. If the situation requires the extension of price control to other vegetables my right hon. Friend will not hesitate to take the necessary measures. So far he has not considered it necessary to take such steps, but the position is being closely watched in the light of the consequences of the potato allocation scheme.
