HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c128W
Mr. Medlicott

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that owing to the reduced mileage travelled by those cars which remain on the road in future, the running time during which the batteries can be charged will be limited, with a consequent increase in the amount of electricity needed to charge batteries; and whether, with a view to lessening consumption of electric current, he will now allow cars to be parked at night in those streets that are adequately lighted without having to have their sidelights on.

Mr. Callaghan

I have no power under the existing law to adopt this proposal, which in any case would require careful consideration from the point of view of public safety.
