HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 cc98-9W
Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour the numbers of able-bodied men registered as unemployed at each of of the following employment exchanges in South Wales: Garnant, Pontardawe, Clydach, Ystalyfera, Neath and Resolven.

Mr. Isaacs

The unemployment statistics compiled by my Department do not distinguish able-bodied men from others. The number of insured males aged 14–64 registered as unemployed at the employment exchanges in question at 13th October are given below. A large proportion of these men were registered as general labourers for light work. The figures also include the registered disabled suitable for ordinary employment: Garnant, 374; Pontardawe, 75; Clydach, 55; Ystalyfera, 419; Neath, 438; Resolven, 115.
