§ 83. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the case of Wilfred Booth (aged 47 years), previously manager of a Navy, Army and Air Force Institution, who died in Parkhurst Prison Hospital on 1st October from pulmonary tuberculosis as certified on the death certificate issued on 6th October; that on 18th September following anxiety expressed by his sister as to his health it was stated that he had been carefully examined and that no trace of malignant or tubercular disease had been found and that his general condition was regarded as fairly satisfactory; who carried out this examination; and whether he is satisfied as to its accuracy.
§ Mr. EdeThe statement to which my hon. Friend refers was based on a report of the principal medical officer of the prison, made after examining this man on 5th September. There was no failure to make a full and careful examination and at that date there were no clinical signs of tuberculosis. I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my sympathy with the relatives of the deceased.
